I love series. It gives me the opportunity to revisit old characters and chill with a rad supporting cast. I mean some author's have a tendency to end books so abruptly - well with a series it's no problem because you know you'll see those characters again. I mean the HEA (Happily Ever After) is great and all but sometimes you want to bask in the afterglow. That's why I read series and paranormal romances have some of the most complex and detailed worlds that span countless books.
